Portfolio Strategy Session During Onboarding
As part of your VEO onboarding process, you’ll meet with your Customer Success Manager (CSM) for a dedicated Portfolio Strategy Session. This session is designed to help your team develop a clear plan for how your Virtual Engagement Officer (VEO) will create the most value for your organization.
Rather than simply assigning donors, this conversation focuses on strategy — aligning your goals, donor segments, and engagement approach so your VEO launches with intention.
What Is a Portfolio Strategy Session?
The Portfolio Strategy Session is a collaborative working meeting with your CSM where you’ll:
- Align on your organization’s fundraising and engagement goals
- Identify donor segments that are best suited for VEO engagement
- Explore ways the VEO can support retention, upgrades, qualification, or pipeline growth
- Develop a thoughtful portfolio mix that matches your priorities
Your CSM will help guide the discussion and offer recommendations based on best practices and similar use cases.
Portfolio Strategy Resources
The main resource for this session is the Portfolio Strategy guide, which provides a structured framework to help your team think through:
- Defining clear goals for your VEO (e.g., retention, participation, upgrades)
- Selecting the right donor segments to support those goals
- Building a balanced portfolio that supports sustainable engagement
You can review the Portfolio Strategy resources here:
Many teams find it helpful to review this resource ahead of their session so the conversation can be more focused and productive.
Why This Matters
A strong portfolio strategy helps ensure your VEO is set up for success from day one. By taking the time to plan thoughtfully with your CSM, you’ll:
- Avoid a “one-size-fits-all” approach
- Align VEO outreach with your broader development strategy
- Create clearer expectations and measurable outcomes
This session lays the foundation for meaningful donor engagement and long-term value from your VEO.
